An Interview with Dress for Cocktails

We are so excited to introduce you today to Leslie of Dress for Cocktails and the creater of the Cocktail Clutch. We stumbled upon her via Instagram a few months ago and have been utterly obsessed with her girly designs and versatile product. Her Cocktail Clutches are adorable clutches that come in many colors and patterns with interchangeable bows that simply clip on. We love collecting all her bows and playing with prints. Find out about her inspiration and journey below:

What inspired you to start your business?

I’m passionate about creating ambiance – in decorating, dressing up and entertaining. Whether it’s a colorful room, a stunning tablescape, a fancy cocktail, a darling dress, or a fabulous Cocktail Clutch, setting the stage sets the mood.  So in 2011, when I paired a pretty green party dress I sewed from a Vogue pattern with a lime margarita, a light went off and the idea of Dress for Cocktails was born.  (See my dedication here for the full story:

What advice would you give to an inspiring entrepreneur or student?

When I launched my end goal was uncertain.  The best thing I did was take action, and I did so consistently!  I began blogging regularly, posting things I love on Instagram and putting myself out there.  Creating the Cocktail Clutch came amidst all this activity.  It filled a personal need for me – I was forever in search of a clutch to hold the essentials for heading out for drinks on the avenue, including an iphone +.  When I couldn’t find one, I designed and created my own!  It’s the perfect accessory for Dress For Cocktails!  The Clutch is bright, festive and pretty.  With it’s interchangeable bow, it’s the perfect Clutch for every outfit.

How has social media influenced or helped your business? Do you have an example?

The influence of social media has helped me grow my business both with clients and when searching for resources.  It is my primary tool for promoting my brand, and it has also become my best tool for finding vendors, creating collaborations, and meeting like-minded girl-preneuers.  Most recently, I collaborated with Blair April, of  She designed a Cheetah Christmas fabric, and I created a bow to adorn my Holiday Collection of Clutches.  Cross promotions help in gaining followers that share similar tastes and growing your regional market base.

Who do you admire and why?

This is a tough question, as there are so many people that I love and adore, and for different reasons.  What immediately comes to mind, my mom and dad.  They are my champions in all that I do, and every venture I’ve set out to achieve they’ve been there to cheer me on.  Without question, this is the reason I am an entrepreneur today.  You have to dream big, take action, and realize there are no mistakes.

What’s next for you and your business?

I’m excited to be launching Dress For Cocktails in retail locations.  Our happy colors do well in resort towns and charming communities.  So look for our Cocktail Clutches to appear in your favorite boutique. We’re also considering a home-party option.  We’ve found that once you own a Cocktail Clutchand bows, you have to have more!  This will give girls a chance to share the Clutch with friends, make some clutch cash, and add to their collection.  Of course, our on-line shop at is always open!
