An Interview with Keira Nicole

Today we have a special interview with jewelry designer Keira Nicole. Keira is a super motivated (and fashionable) student who somehow in her spare time as a college student decided to start her own jewelry business selling on Etsy. Learn more about this go-getter creative below:

What inspired you to start your business?

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a love for jewelry and an obsession with crafting, so I decided to combine the two! Last summer I decided it was time to start my own business so I did lots of research on Etsy and other little details and opened my shop in October of 2016!

What advice would you give to an inspiring entrepreneur or student?

Always believe in yourself and your passion. My dance teacher always used to tell me that if you’re doing something you love you’ll never have to work a day in your life and that motivated me to stick to my path. Don’t let anyone tell you that you will fail or that you’re not good enough because the only person whose opinion matters is your own.

How has social media influenced or helped your business? Do you have an example?

Social media is a huge aspect of my business. I started very small and still am a small business and social media has really helped me get my name out there. Recently I started sending a few bloggers some jewelry to post about which, in return, has helped me gain more followers and even orders. I love creating relationships with these ladies and it makes me so happy when I see a post with their amazing outfits with my jewelry.

Who do you admire and why?

Jamie Kern Lima from IT Cosmetics and Kendra Scott are two women in the beauty and fashion industry who I have admired for years. They both started their businesses on their own and created an empire for themselves. They are authentic and have a true love for what they do and how they can help others.

And how could I not mention my #1 fan? My mom has been by my side through everything and is my biggest supporter. I don’t think I truly realized every sacrifice she has made for my siblings and I until I was older but now I know how much of a superhero she really is. I couldn’t be more proud to have her in my life!

Why did you decide to start your business while still in school? How do you balance it?

I decided to start while in school because I knew it was going to be really small to start off so I thought it would be manageable. Now, a year later with a full class load and three other jobs, I do sometimes question myself and my sanity! But I do love working and I pride myself on my work ethic so it all comes together at the end of the day. I have learned how to manage my schedule a find time for homework and my business in between everything else that goes on.

What’s next for you and your business?

My mind changes every day! I want to expand I know that but the question is how? Sometimes I want to expand my jewelry line on Etsy and sometimes I want to start an online gift boutique carrying other brands. That’s the difficult part of also being a student because with each semester changing, I never know how much time I’m going to have to commit to my business. So until that happens I’m going to take it day by day and see what comes along and what doors will open for me.
