An Interview with Michelle Trincia and Kaylyn Beaston

Michelle Trincia and Kaylyn Beaston, co-founders of bloom, believe that daily planners are a diary of your past and a stepping stone to your future. They hope to use their planners as a vehicle to inspire and encourage women around the world to accomplish their dreams. Learn more about Michelle Trincia and Kaylyn Beaston in our interview with them below.

What inspired you to start your business?

“We have both been planner lovers and users all of our lives! We met as college interns at our parent company, Student Media Group. Back then, Student Media Group solely created custom planners for colleges and universities across the US. Part of our jobs were to put together the planner covers, which always had to be university related (buildings, statues, mascots, etc.) We were bold enough to ask the President of the company if we could design our own planners, specifically designed for women with unique and fun designs. We didn’t want to be limited by gender neutral college themes, and wanted to make something fun and motivating for women to plan with. Luckily for us, SMG’s President encourages “intrepreneurship” – the idea of being entrepreneurial, even if you’re not the boss. He let us run with the idea, and we started by listing a few “Fashion Planners” on eBay. They started to sell, and over the course of a crazy roller coaster of seven years later, bloom daily planners is now it’s own division of Student Media Group that we run! We have expanded the line beyond our Classic Fashion Planners and now create specialty planners like Wedding and Teacher Planners, as well as, desk calendars, planning pads, and so many other products intended to help others bloom into the best version of themselves!”

What advice would you give to an inspiring entrepreneur or student?

“Follow your dreams and never give up! We love the quote “Don’t stop until you’re proud”. Remain focused, proactive, and organized and it will happen. Set goals, stay accountable, read books, listen to podcasts, always try to expand upon your knowledge. You should never stop learning! Find a creative outlet to inspire you and help relieve any stress. Keep a healthy work/life balance so you don’t get burnt out. Trust the process. We have had many ups and downs but things always seem to happen for a reason, and for the best!”

How has social media influenced or helped your business? Do you have an example?

“Social Media has been invaluable to our business and it’s how we share our brand message of inspiring and empowering others to bloom into the best version of themselves! We always try to connect with women who love to be organized or need a little inspiration in their lives on any medium we can. Twitter has been an amazing tool to create more personal conversations with our bloom girls. It makes our day to brighten someone else’s! We rely heavily on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest! The best part of our day is interacting with our #bloomgirls!”
Who do you admire and why?

“We love Sophia Amoruso and the founders of the The Skimm, Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin. They have all paved their way from the ground up and we can really appreciate their stories. With passion and determination anyone can be a #GirlBoss!”

What’s next for you and your business?

“bloom is growing so quickly. The sky is limit! We are adding more products and employees by the day so we see major growth in all of our current sales channels, new sales channels, new distribution relationships, nationally and internationally, and a much larger team to help us accomplish this! We can’t wait to see what the future holds!”
