Jackson Morgan was born out of a need for a craft whiskey cream. It all started in 1921 when Alfred Wetherington, the great grandfather of siblings Jackson and Morgan Weinstock had a whiskey still in eastern North Carolina. He later decided to become a preacher and left the whiskey life behind. Almost a 100 years later, Jackson and Morgan are picking up where he left off with a new twist on the family recipe. What Inspired you to start your business?
“Jackson Morgan Southern Cream is a family affair that everyone took part in helping create along with a few family friends. We had a dream of a cream liqueur that was unique to anything else on the market. I handle the marketing side of the business. For our content and blog, I sought to create a lifestyle that you not only look to for festive cocktail recipes, but also hostess and entertaining tips.”
What advice would you give a student or aspiring entrepreneur?
“Do not be afraid to fail. I have made so many mistakes along the way, but I only made them once and learned from it for the next time.”
How has social media influenced or helped your business? Do you have an example?
“It is still such a “pinch me” moment when a customer posts a picture of a Jackson Morgan bottle or cocktail on social media and we have the opportunity to connect. The feedback we receive on flavors, cocktails, or locations strongly directs where we go next. We had numerous requests for availability in multiple states. Our team includes screenshots of the direct messages in the presentations with various distributors.”
Who do you admire and why?
“I admire Emily Ley of Simplified Planner. She juggles being a wife, mom, author, and owning her own business gracefully. She speaks freely about her faith and runs a debt free company. I also love her theories on simplifying your life to create margin for the stuff that really matters.”
What is next for your business?
“We have a few new projects in the works that we cannot disclose right now. You will have to follow along on social media for sneak peeks!”
What do you think has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?
“Our banana pudding flavor won double gold and best in show at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Conference, which is a huge liquor conference where thousands of brands are in attendance. It was such a great moment for our team where we felt like years of hard work were finally paying off.”
“Don’t be intimidated by what you don’t know. That can be your greatest strength and ensure that you do things differently from everyone else. Sara Blakely Founder of Spanx”
“Depends on the season! I love the banana pudding flavor in the summer and salted caramel the rest of the year especially with coffee.”
How would you describe your brand in 3 words?
“Southern, playful, and unique.”
