As the summer comes to an end, many of us are going back to our everyday routines. These routines may look like hours spent in class or time spent in meetings, and also lots and lots of work. This means we need to get back to being FOCUSED! This can be super hard for many individuals who are not used to being on a schedule after having a long period of time off. Once I was informed that my classes this semester would be online, I knew I had to reassess how I would spend my time focusing on my class work and extra curriculars. After my first week of classes, I’ve put together a list of things I’ve been doing to stay focused during my day and that help me to be my most productive self.
- The 50, 10 Rule – This has helped me the most when it comes to staying on track, and I’ve read that it helps a lot of other people as well! For 50 minutes focus on a task or some work that you need to get done. For those 50, do not allow yourself to get distracted by other things going on. Once the 50 minutes are up, give yourself 10 minutes to relax. This can include phone time, grabbing a snack, or watching a little bit of tv. Once those 10 minutes are up, go back to your work. All you have to do is repeat this process throughout the day!
- Make A List – This may seem silly to say, but just like a grocery list keeps you from purchasing things you don’t need, a list of things to do will keep you on track. On the top of the list put your most important tasks so you know what needs to get done ASAP. On the bottom, put the things you’d like to get done if you have some time, but items that can wait until tomorrow!
- Create a Productive Workspace – If you happen to be at home during the fall like I am, find a space and make it your workspace! Make sure its quiet, comfy, and free of distractions. This will help you focus on the tasks you have at hand.
- Limit Social Media – Personally, I find that social media is the biggest problem when it comes to focusing on my tasks. As hard as it may sound, you have to put the phone down and walk away from any devices that could distract you. Once I decided to do this, I noticed that my productivity went up dramatically!
Trust me, I know how difficult focusing can be with the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Now that summer is over, it’s time for us to get back on the grind. With these tips in mind, I guarantee you’ll be able to get your focus on too, and achieve all your 2020 goals! If any of our readers have any tips that help them focus, let us know, we’d love to learn more!
