We’re a huge fan of Town’s End Outfitters! With a wide variety of designer active wear and performance apparel, what’s not to love? Britt and Carolyn prove that luxury and active wear CAN be combined!
What Inspired you to start your business?
BL: Carolyn and I originally connected through our passion for horses while riding on the Equestrian Team in university and quickly discovered a shared enthusiasm for adventure and trying new things. We wanted to cultivate a community that allowed women to feel empowered to try new sports and we felt we could help build confidence through style regardless of skill level. Town’s End Outfitters has connected us with other amateur athletes around the world and it is so much fun to see our vision becoming a reality!
What advice would you give a student or aspiring entrepreneur?
CL: Britt and I always recommend working in several different industries to help you find your passion and learn a more varied skill set. The more roles you can learn or do – the better. Don’t be afraid to work or intern at a smaller company where you will be given more responsibility and roles, you’ll learn more! As entrepreneurs we constantly find ourselves learning how to do new things. The more we know how to do the more budget we can put into other parts of the business!
How has social media influenced or helped your business? Do you have an example?
BL: Social media has been essential in developing Team Town’s End and our Sporting Girl Gang. We’re so fortunate to create a community of women around the world – from a tennis player in New York to a polo playing fitness guru in Argentina – that are able to connect and share together instantly. That being said, we love inspiring people to get off of their phones and more deeply involved in their passions. Each piece on Town’s End is designed to create or enhance an experience – winning a jump off, carving fresh tracks, sinking a hole in one – and instil a feeling of play.
Who do you admire and why?
CL: We admire people who have the ability to reinvent themselves and inspire others. We’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to work with several incredible athletes such as Lance Armstrong and Venus Williams who have defined themselves beyond their sport. While most people think of Venus as a tennis player, she is also an accomplished fashion designer, entrepreneur and interior designer. Multifaceted and talented individuals give us have given us the courage to define ourselves as equestrians and entrepreneurs. We also have an unofficial book club and a few of our favorites include Shoe Dog by Steve Knight, Made in America by Sam Walton or anything on Bill Gates recommended reading lists!
What is next for your business?
BL: Carolyn and I have always shared a passion for horses, and we’re thrilled to announce we will now be including items for our other four-legged friends – dogs! This month, we will be introducing pet products and accessories from Macondo Belts and James Purdey & Sons. As we continue to expand our sporting selection, we will also be announcing home and tailgating accessories inspired by all of our favorite sports. We have a few other exciting things in the works – but we can’t share them just yet. Follow along on @townsendoutfitters to stay posted!
