Pique their Brain with Marguerite Adzick

Addison Bay was founded by Philadelphia-based entrepreneur, Marguerite Adzick, after her passion for fitness as a collegiate athlete merged with her successful career in the fashion industry. Recognizing a need in the industry for a single, quality platform with high-function and stylish activewear, Addison Bay took shape. Learn more about Marguerite and her business below!

What inspired you to start your business?

“I have been thinking of this fashion x fitness concept for years. Previously, I was working at Lilly Pulitzer’s headquarters in King of Prussia for a total of 6 years. I loved my role there so much, but I always had an entrepreneurial bug and knew I would definitely go off on my own at some point. In the Fall of 2017, I started writing a business plan and speaking with close friends and family members, and felt like there was definitely some traction with the Addison Bay concept. Marry that with the fact that the fitness scene is blowing up in Philly right now – the influx of several trendy fitness boutique studios flooding down from New York is really exciting and I felt like this was the best time to establish an activewear company that was aligned with this growth.”

What advice would you give a student or aspiring entrepreneur?

“LET. IT. RIP. Don’t hold back because you’re unsure or scared. Sky is the limit and I believe if you can put your head down, focus on your goal, block out the noise, you can go SO far. Rely on and support other women! I have had so many amazing female entrepreneurs take the time to speak with me and give me their valuable insight. I am definitely going to pay it forward and help in any way that I can.”

How has social media influenced or helped your business? Do you have an example?

“Social media has been a great avenue to speak with our consumer. One of the negatives of launching an ecommerce business is not getting as much face time with the consumer – social media helps make us easily available for constant conversation on new products, events, and more.”

Who do you admire and why?

“Having gone through the launch of my own company, I have a special admiration for other entrepreneurs. My brother, Brian, has launched two businesses in the past 5 years and is the definition of hustle, grit, and hard work. I have certainly relied on him heavily during the launch of my own company – I especially admire his ability to take the emotion out of tough situations.”

What is next for your business?

“Big things! I eventually want to open a flagship store in Center City Philadelphia, which would be a place for fitness and fashion enthusiasts to gather, shop & hang before or after working out. As a whole, I see us scaling the business and becoming the premier destination for fashion-forward and high performance activewear.”

What do you think has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?

“Having my daughter – we worked really hard to get pregnant, facing fertility struggles and going through IVF several times, and I’m so proud of myself for battling through. When I finally got pregnant, I felt a sense of accomplishment – it took a ton of time, energy, and grit to get there, but was certainly worth it. Annie is the light of my life and I’m so grateful for a happy & healthy baby.”
