Meet Nikita the found of Andi’s List! We discovered her gorgeous rolling racks through our friend Jennifer of James Ascher and are ordering one for the new office. We had to learn more about her business and share it with you…
What inspired you to start your business?
I started my blog, TheAndisList.com, named after our daughter, Andi, in late 2015. In 2016, my husband, Anthony, built me a clothing rack for my wardrobe that was quickly outgrowing our closet. I’ve always known he was skilled at fixing and building things but I was blown away when he brought this rack in. It was more shabby chic than our current products, with a blue stained wood base and black iron bars. I told him it was amazing and we should try to sell them. Known for not being an optimist, he immediately shut the idea down saying “nobody would want to buy these”. Fast forward to Summer 2018. We were talking about what we could do differently with my blog as it was stale and needed something new and refreshing. We were tossing around the idea of selling something like clothes or jewelry and then the idea popped back into my head. I suggested we make a rack, but something more elegant this time. We decided a white wood base, bottom shoe shelf and since rose gold seemed to be trending, we went for rose gold bars. We styled the rack displaying various designers on it, including one of my favorite blogger/designer, Rachel Parcell. We posted the photo on Instagram announcing our latest business venture and tagged all of the designers. Within minutes of posting the photo, Rachel Parcell’s team reached out stating that she loved the rack and wanted to order one for her clothing line! She chose her colors and how she wanted the rack to look and we sent it to her. Since then, we hit the ground running!
What advice would you give to an aspiring entrepreneur or student?
I heard a quote last week and cannot stop sharing it: “It’s better to create something that others criticize, than to create nothing and criticize others.” I also try to live by “Positive thoughts create positive things”. I am always thinking about the future, what we are going to do next and what we can do better. I would say be aware of what your talents are and really focus in on that. Don’t just try to do something that everyone else is doing and don’t compare your successes to others. Expect a lot of trial and error and continue to grow and learn. The sky is the limit!
How has social media influenced or helped your business?
We have Rachel and her team to thank for helping us get so much exposure. All of our business is internet based so social media is key. We use Instagram and Facebook to showcase our products and build relationships. We have partnered with a lot of bloggers and celebrities who take photos of our racks and tag us on Instagram. Not only is this great advertising for us, but it is also a great way for us to have quality photos showcasing our products in different ways, that we can use for our website and share on our social media accounts.
Who do you admire and why?
I really admire my husband, Anthony. He can literally fix or build anything. We receive custom order requests all the time and everything he makes is better than I imagine it will be. He is the hardest working person I know and so determined. I love that. I am extremely proud of him. Our business wouldn’t be successful if it weren’t for him.
I also admire all of the female business woman out there. This is such an amazing time to be alive and see women coming together and supporting each other. There are no limits to what we can do and accomplish.
What is next for your business?
We are currently in the process of setting up a stand-alone website. We will still keep our shop on Etsy, ShopAndisList.com, but we feel it would be beneficial to have our own separate website as well. We are also moving to a larger workshop in the next few weeks to accommodate our orders and have upgraded all of our equipment, including a much larger powder coat oven! We are most excited about the oven because it is going to allow us to do much larger fixtures. Stay tuned!!
